October Update - Coaching, Competitive Action & More!
October 11, 2014
This weekend we see competitive action take place in KL in Malaysia at the
Fexco Asian Gaelic Games with up to 48 teams, mainly from Asian GAA clubs
lining out this year. Dubai Celts sent their Mens A Team to compete in the
Derek Brady Cup. Having reached the final last year before going down to Qatar
GAA, they are looking to go one better this year and bring the DB Cup back to
the Middle East again having won it twice before in 2010 and 2005. They will
also see this as a good test before defending their Sperrin Metal Middle East
League title starting in Bahrain on the 24th of October.
Middle East GAA's big coaching weekend is well underway in Abu Dhabi today and
continues into tomorrow. Up to forty people will receive official GAA certified
coaching qualifications in Foundation and Level 1 Award - to bring back to their respective clubs around
the region. This will enrich coaching and GAA development across all codes in
Juveniles/Schools level, Mens and Ladies.
Minister
for the Diaspora, Jimmy Deenihan was a special guest at Abu Dhabi Na Fiannaâs
GAA training session on Thursday night and was very impressed with the level of
enthusiasm and dedication to Gaelic Games that he experienced while on his
visit to both Dubai and Abu Dhabi during the week. He will also be in
attendance at the Asian Gaelic Games in Kuala Lumpur this weekend.
Meanwhile over 54 teams are heading into their final preparations over the next
two weeks for the 1st Round of the Sperrin Metal Middle East League in Bahrain
on the 24th October, the biggest GAA event held in Asia this year. This is the
largest tournament hosted by the legendary Arabian Celts GAA Club yet and
promises to deliver the usual feast of football, hurling, ceol & craic.
