About Donegal Dubai
Founded in the summer of 2024 by Donegal natives Liam Doherty (Kilcar) and Conor Gibbons (Letterkenny), Donegal Dubai GAA Club has quickly become a thriving centre for sport, culture, and community in Dubai. Designed to offer “a home away from home” for Irish expats and those who simply love Gaelic games, the club embraces inclusivity, welcoming members from varied professions such as real‑estate, teaching, healthcare, recruitment, and hospitality and much more.
In its debut season, the club saw enthusiastic participation at training—often hitting 40 to 50 men and about 30 to 40 women per session—and has already fielded multiple men’s and ladies’ teams, exceeding initial targets for growth in year one. The club is run by a diverse committee of Donegal natives spread across career sectors, skilled in club organisation and keen to build a vision for juvenile involvement and eventual inclusion of hurling.
Donegal Dubai is more than just sport—it fosters social connection, cultural engagement, and charity efforts. In July 2025, the club launched a special Daniel O’Donnell jersey to support Gemma’s Legacy of Hope, donating all proceeds to counselling and play therapy services in Dungloe in memory of Gemma Boyle and also this year will attend a tournament for diaspora Donegal teams in the USA.
Now firmly established within the Middle East GAA, Donegal Dubai continues to grow its sporting presence, network and intercultural engagement across the UAE.
