The Middle East County Board is continuously providing further opportunities for the development of its members by providing coaching courses, referees courses and other resources delivered by GAA approved instructors, photos of our most recent course attached. Going forward, the MECB hopes to extend these activities to GAA handball, Irish language lessons and Irish dancing.
Coaching courses for MEGAA members, 2023-24 season
Foundation Level: Introduction to Coaching Gaelic Games
The Introduction to Coaching Gaelic Games course is aimed at beginner coaches and will enable participants to develop players across the GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association. It is an entry level course and an excellent opportunity to improve coaching skills. The course will likely feature three online sessions and an in-person element in November 2023. While it is intended to facilitate the in-person element in each jurisdiction, this will depend on the level of interest (minimum number of participants) in each location and availability of facilitators.
Award 1: Coach Education
The Award 1 Coach Education course is the second award on the coaching pathway of Gaelic games. The course is aimed at coaches that have progressed through the Introduction to Coaching Gaelic games (or equivalent) and have experience as a coach. The Award 1 Coach Education course has been designed to take account of the different playing capacities that exist between children, youths and adults, and the competencies that a coach is required to display when working with each of the playing populations. The proposed date for the in-person element is January 2024.
For any Middle East GAA members that wish to enroll in one or both of these courses, they are to contact their club secretary and register before Tuesday 24th October 2023. Courses are subject to number of participants and tutor availability.
Referee Course, September 2023
On Saturday 30th September in Sharjah, the MECB held a referee course to train GAA qualified referees to officiate at our upcoming tournaments. There were representatives from clubs from all across the region. Thank you to referees Seán and Pádraig for delivering the course in an enjoyable and engaging way.
