2020/21 League and Championship Cancellation
January 18, 2021
A chairde,
Following on from our previous communication in December regarding the Middle East GAA League and Championship, the Middle East Board (MEB) have continued to monitor the ongoing situation with regards to the COVID-19 pandemic and have agreed that it is not feasible for any MEB tournaments to be held for the remainder of the 2020/2021 season.
The MEB is obviously very disappointed that we have been unable to proceed with any of the planned 2020/2021 tournaments, but the health and safety of our members is our number one priority. With transmission rates still high and travel restrictions across the Gulf states remaining in place for the foreseeable future, it is impossible to plan for a return to tournament play with any certainty over the coming months.
The Board would like to reiterate to clubs that they should continue to monitor and adhere to local guidelines if they intend to continue with training and/or social events over the coming months. The roll-out of COVID-19 vaccines is obviously an extremely positive development and we hope that we will be able to return to tournament play for the beginning of the 2021/2022 season.
Another positive development is the lifting of restrictions on Qatar by the UAE, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. We look forward to Qatar GAA's involvement in hopefully all our tournaments from the start of next season. The Board will continue to engage with clubs and members over the coming months and remain fully available for any queries and requests.
Go raibh míle maith agat.
