The first round of the Middle East GAA Football League took place over the weekend at the Sevens Stadium, with Sharjah Gaels and Abu Dhabi Na Fianna tasting victory in the senior ladies’ and men’s competitions respectively.

Both finals went to extra time, with goals ultimately separating the teams. The ladies’ final was a thrilling contest, with Jessica Brady’s golden-score goal sealing the win for Sharjah after a gripping game that finished 1-4 to 0-4.

Special mention goes to Roisin Kavanagh, Lucy Wallace and Eve Mullins, who were a constant threat throughout. That said, every player on the Sharjah team contributed to the occasion.

For Jumeirah Gaels, there were heroes all over the field as well, with star player Megan O'Shea always a threat going forward.

In the men’s final, Jack Wrafter from Castleknock held his nerve to kick the free that forced extra time (0-4 to 0-4) for Abu Dhabi against Sharjah. However, in added time, Abu Dhabi reigned supreme with two quick points and a decisive goal from Cillian Tyres, as the men from the capital ran out 1-6 to 0-4 winners.

In Division 2A, Dubai Celts overcame Laochra Gael in the men's final, while Abu Dhabi were victorious over Dubai Celts in the ladies final.
